Florence is remembered by many as a “second mama” while co-owner and operator of Family Recreation Center, the “skating rink.” She also co-owned and operated Manning Enterprises with her husband, Buddy. “Miss Florence,” as she was affectionately known, served several terms as Alderwoman for the Town of Franklinton, and was greatly instrumental in the plans and construction of the current Fire Department, as well as spearheading numerous community beautification and upkeep projects. She served in several civic and community organizations including the Home and Garden Club, Friends of the Library, Varnado Store Museum and the Farmers’ Market, among others.  She was involved in many Bible study and Sunday school activities at First Baptist Church, and enjoyed reading, painting, gardening and caring for her treasured pets in her spare time. Miss Florence was well-known as an active and energetic community member who could always be counted on to assist whenever and wherever she was needed to serve the town she loved. Most importantly, she was a constant and devoted companion to her beloved husband, and a kind and loving mother, grandmother and friend.

Florence devoted her life to service of others, and wanted to continue that legacy after her death. In fulfillment of her final wishes, her earthly body was donated to LSU Medical School Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. A family service and interment will follow at a later time. She would be honored to know of the many warm memories and expressions of caring shown by those whose lives she touched.  Her family wish to extend heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love, support and prayers from the community that has been extended during this time.
