Emmett Francis Poynot, born on July 6, 1943, in New Orleans, Louisiana, passed away on February 28, 2025, in Covington, Louisiana. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication to his family.

Emmett was an active member of the Theta Xi fraternity and enjoyed a variety of hobbies. He loved reading, dancing, spending time with family and friends, as well as engaging in sports. He held a special fondness for the Waffle House, as well as reading and occasionally drinking coffee with friends at Barnes and Noble. Emmett was self employed as a Private Investigator  for 20+ years and  District Manager of Gen Worth Financial LTC Division for approximately 12 years, honing his talents and excelling in his professional endeavors.

He is survived by his spouse, Sandy Kreuter Poynot, and their children: Harris Poynot, Cherie Neill (Sean), Scotty Poynot (Kelda), Andrew Poynot (Becky), Daniel Poynot (Paige),  and Jeremy Poynot. Emmett was a beloved grandfather and great-grandfather, leaving behind 12 grandchildren: Ethan, Savannah, Madison, Joshua, Matthew, Mia, Asher, Jesse, Adam, Jude, Jack and Jovie, along with three great-grandchildren; Annie-Joy, Henry Francis and Layla Scott. He is also survived by his siblings: Sr. Diane Poynot CSJ, William Poynot (Lauren), and Denise Stall.

Emmett is preceded in death by his father, Oscar Poynot, his mother, Jeanne Marie Ganucheau Poynot, his son, Michael Poynot, and his sister, Charlotte Poynot Raley. Emmett's warmth and kindness touched many lives, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him. 

Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Friday March 14, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. with visitation starting at 10:30 a.m. at Mary Queen of Peace 1501 W Causeway Approach Mandeville, Louisiana 70471.
