Elaine Nicosia

Elaine Root Nicosia, known to her family as "Meme" passed away on August 3, 2021 at the age of 88. She was born June 24, 1933 in New Orleans, La..  She was a graduate of Metairie High. Elaine resided in Metairie for many years and moved to Robert, Louisiana in 1980.

Elaine was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years John "Jack" Nicosia, her parents Fred Root, Jr. and Rose Barrere Root, her siblings Frederic Root, Thomas Root, Earl (Ben) Root, Ronald Root, Harriet Mathes,  Rose Root and son-in-law, Samuel Bonanno.

She is survived by her 3 children, John N. Nicosia, Jr. (Becky),  Lisa N. Bonanno, Gary Nicosia (Linda), 4 grandchildren, Lindsey Nicosia Staiger,   John N. Nicosia III, (Victoria), Courtney Elaine Nicosia, Monica B. Bourgoyne (Brad),  4 great-grandchildren, Madison Rose Staiger, Conor Samuel Bourgoyne, John N. Nicosia IV and Mila Elaine Bourgoyne.
Elaine enjoyed playing cards, bowling, gardening, sewing  and gathering with her 12 special friends to play Pokeno.  She loved  making her famous grilled cheese sandwiches for her grandchildren and more recently her great-grandchildren.  She enjoyed making her special fudge for any occasion. She recently developed a real love for tending to her many cats.

Relatives and friends are invited to the Funeral Mass at St. Anselm Catholic Church, Madisonville, La. on Friday, August 13, at 12 noon with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the Mass
Face masks are required in Church.
