Edward Taylor Ursin passed away peacefully Saturday March 23, 2024. He was 99 years old and born July 5, 1924. He was the son of George Ursin and Nina Ellen Frazee and was married to Evelyn Georgette Tourne’ who predeceased him. He is survived by his four children: Susonne, Edward II, Nina and Stephen, and his three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He was born and raised in New Orleans where he graduated from Warren Easton High School then worked on the river as an outside machinist. WWII was ongoing so he attended Kings Point Maritime Academy in Pass Christian, MS and graduated in marine engineering. He held a commission in the US Navy Reserve as a 2nd Lieutenant. He served on the USS Azalea City, an armed troop carrier, in the Pacific theatre of operations as an engineering officer. He participated in the invasion of Saipan and Iwo Jima.
He worked as an Executive Safety Professional for many years, BSA Scout Master and Pass Master of Square & Compass Lodge F&AM.
He had a full life and will be missed. A private service is planned.
