Edna Truss

April 6, 1930 — October 22, 2021

Nomad, wanderer, doll collector and crafter.  All adjectives that describe Edna Truss who has completed her journey in this life and joined her son, parents, siblings, friends and her beloved pup in heaven.  Born in Greenville, N.C., Edna left home at an early age, hitchhiking to Norfolk, Va.  Even though she had only an 8th grade education, Edna found a position as a bookkeeper and over the years would maintain the books of several large businesses.  As the manual accounting world changed, Edna moved on to management positions in the restaurant and retail industries.  She was successful and maintained a very comfortable life.

Edna’s journey would include having her four children and travelling; lots of travelling!  It was never a surprise when Edna would say she was moving.  Overcoming a horrible childhood, bad marriages and health challenges, strong, brave, and fiercely independent, Edna was a force in life.  But tragically her independence was taken away with a devastating stroke that led to Dementia and ultimately Alzheimer’s.  When she could no longer live alone, she was wonderfully cared for by her son, Barry Van Shoubrouek and wife Mary Van Shoubrouek and her awesome caretaker Katrina.  Love and assistance were also given by her granddaughter Danielle Van Shoubrouek.

Remembering and honoring Edna are her daughter Sherrall Van Leeuwen (wine drinking, mocha buddy) and husband Steve, son William Fulford and wife Sueann, Granddaughter Michele Paretti (Lou) , Grandsons Russell Fulford and Clayton Hubert. And great granddaughter Ella and great grandson Parker.

We will miss you Mommacita. All your crazy ways, your Christmas spirit, immaculate home and always coiffed appearance. We hope you are wandering the heavens with the same spirit.
