Our precious mother, Edna Gallagher, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at the age of 96.
Edna was born on October 14, 1927 to Margaret Weidenbacher and Robert Mullet in New Orleans, LA where she met her husband Richard Gallagher. They were united in holy matrimony in February 1946 when she was 18 years old. They had seven children together. Her first child was born when she was 19 and her last child when she was 39. Her husband passed away when she was 57. She lived her life the way she wanted to live it. There was no stopping her. She was the central figure in the lives of her children. She was a star in their eyes, as anyone who knows them can attest, and that’s all that ever mattered to her.
She loved all animals. She bred and showed Doberman Pinchers and mini pinchers. She won several awards for best of breed. She loved going to Bingo every Monday night even though she thought it was rigged at times. She loved drawing and decorating crafts.
She was a fighter until the end. She survived colon cancer, breast cancer twice, and a heart attack. She refused to use a wheel chair when she needed one. She would force herself to walk, because she was afraid if she quit her legs would quit too.
Edna was predeceased by her husband of 39 years Richard Gallagher, and her son James (Sandy) Gallagher. She is survived by six children, Diana (Francis) Cameron, Jeanne (Richard) Riddle, Dennis (Sharon) Gallagher, Debbie (Paul 1951-2009) Maibauer, and (Ed 1951-2023) Warren, Tuesday (Craig) Landry, Tammy (Jody) Sellno, twenty grandchildren, thirty-seven great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and her companion for the last 9 years, her little dog, Precious.
