Dr. Ronald Earl Foust, Ph.D., beloved father and husband passed away on September 10, 2017 after a struggle with cancer. He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas. His parents were Bonnie West and Earl Foust both of whom are deceased. His formative years were spent in Kentucky where he discovered a love of writing. He was then in the Army from 1963-1966. He was in the ASA (Army Security Agency) and was posted in Germany. He then completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Kentucky. He received his doctorate of literature in 1969 at the University of Maryland. He then taught at Loyola University in New Orleans from 1981-2007. At Loyola he was known for his exciting lectures in such diverse subjects as literary theory, Dracula, Poe, science fiction and film. He had a sincere concern for his students, and believed that college was a place for students to face challenges. For those who knew and loved him, he was brilliant, charismatic, and a rebel. For those he challenged he shall go down in history. The most formative event in his life was the birth of his daughter Kirstin Veronica Foust Murphy in 1969. She inspired him to see the joy in life. And with her birth he became a champion of women’s issues. Ron is survived by his wife of 48 years, June Ellen Schleifmann Foust, daughter Kirstin Veronica Foust Murphy (husband Dennis Murphy Jr.), nephew Allen Bell (wife Patricia Bell), sister-in-law Susan Schleifmann Zabenco, nephew Nicholas Zabenco III (wife Crystal Eggers Zabenco), 3 grand nephews, and 2 step grandchildren. He requested that no formal service should be held but that a celebration of his life should take place at the appropriate bar. It will be a fitting Irish Wake attended by some of his cherished students. Memorial donations in memory of Dr. Ron can be made to Wounded Warriors. Bagnell and Son Funeral Home Covington, Louisiana in charge of arrangements.
