Emblem

Dr. John Patrick “Pat” Galloway, died Sunday, October 1, 2023. Born April 7, 1935, in Pineville, Louisiana, Pat grew up in the area and graduated from Bolton High School in Alexandria. Pat received his Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana College, and went on to complete a Masters of Social Work at Tulane University. Devoted to continued learning and a passion for helping people, he later earned a PhD in Sociology from Louisiana State University. Over the years, Pat enjoyed a fulfilling career as a psychiatric social worker, teaching at Dominican College and Delgado College, and working for the St. Tammany Parish Sherriff’s Office.

Pat was dedicated to his career, and his desire to help others shined brightly in his practice of social work. Pat was a lover of people. He adored his family - his wonderful wife Rene, his children, and his many grandchildren, and he never met a stranger. He was a man of great faith and strong family values, and he went above and beyond to show his care for those he loved. More than anything, he loved his three children, Patrick, Philip, and Caroline, and he did everything he could to cherish and support them.

Notably, Pat also spent a great deal of time helping people throughout the New Orleans area to overcome their addictions and enjoy a life in recovery. Pat was an active member of the board of Bridge House for many years, and he treasured his relationships with those he befriended through local addiction ministries. Pat used those same giftings to help people through radio, hosting his own radio hour “The Real World” every weekday on WWL 870 AM throughout the 1980s, answering his callers’ problems. 870 WWL
described Pat and his show as “warm, human, understanding. and a real service to New Orleans” which thrilled him to no end. Pat adored the city of New Orleans, its people, and its culture, spending most of his adult life in and around the Crescent City. Pat loved fishing, staying fit, spending time outdoors, and, of course, LSU football. Pat was especially proud to be a US Marine Veteran, serving during the Korean War from 1954 – 1957.

Pat is survived by his wife, Ellarene Downs Galloway; sons John Patrick Galloway Jr., his wife Monica Rosero Galloway, and Manuel Philip Galloway; daughter Caroline Galloway Wasson, and her husband Chip Wasson; stepdaughters Lynn Harvey Ramos, her husband Dion Ramos, Sarah Harvey Ogden, her husband, Michael Ogden, and Beth Harvey Watkins, her husband, William Watkins.
