It is with a heavy heart that we announce the death of Don Salvetti on Monday November 20, 2017. Don was the son of the late Dante and Adama Salvetti originally from Pittsburg. Don is survived by his Wife Beverly of 60 years, his three children Jennifer Cantrell, Julie and Mark Salvetti and his sister Alma Jennings. Don had the blessing of Seven Grandchildren; Ashley Boudreaux, Megan Tykol, Mande, Julianne and Dante Cantrell, Nicholas and Matthew Salvetti. And two Great-Grandchildren Jax Boudreaux and Reid Tykol. Don will be greatly missed by his family.Don was known for his ability to be ahead of the curve, learn the new thing before everyone else. He was innovative and always trying to find a better way, a true Engineer at heart. The first to own a computer and master it and leaving us after getting the latest iPhone. He was born and raised in Pennsylvania and went to school at the University of Virgina and earned a Bachelors Degree and a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering. He was awarded a ROTC Scholarship and achieved the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade in the US Navy. Don traveled the world on his Navy Deployments making port in South America, the Caribbean, Japan and Australia. While on shore leave Don met his future Wife Beverly in her hometown of Sydney Australia the year was 1957. Although they had only met each other and spent a brief week together, Don called her and proposed marriage over the phone from San Diego Naval Port upon his return. Bev said “yes” and thus began their family life in the Northeast. Their young family lived in Pittsburg, Chicago and then Philadelphia. While in Philadelphia Don was instrumental in managing many successful high density residential developments as well as never missing a home NFL Eagles game with his family. Some of the fondest memories of the family are the long drive to and from the Stadium on Sunday evenings. Their time in Philadelphia coincided with the 3 years the Philadelphia Flyers won the Stanley Cup, and they never missed a game.Don moved his family to Louisiana in 1977 and continued his Real Estate Development Career in the City. In the mid 80’s Don started his own development and construction company and developed office and retail projects as well as single family homes on the Northshore until he retired in 1998. Don enjoyed time with his family and hunting and fishing with family and friends. Some of his most treasured times were that of sailing on Lake Pontchartrain with his Crew, the Navy Lieutenant in command.
