Deborah Sessum Puig died August 10, 2022, at her home in Mandeville, Louisiana, at 69; she was surrounded by family. Deborah is survived by her grandchildren, Jacob Putnam and Phoebe Naylor; and their grandfather, Ronald Sessum and her husband, Eugene Puig of Mandeville. Deborah has four siblings in Mississippi: Sandra Matthews, Cynthia (James) Wilson, Cliff (Tina) Sanders and Michael Sanders. Her parents, Thomas Suddoth and Joyce James Sanders of Carrollton, Mississippi, and her daughter, Shaara Elizabeth Sessum of Mandeville, are deceased. Deborah graduated high school from Carroll Academy and from nursing school at Memphis State as an RN. She enjoyed a 40-year career. Deborah was most gifted in taking care of babies in NICUs from Georgetown to New Orleans.  She flew babies to children’s hospitals on helicopters and had the confidence of her peers and superiors. Among her many career accomplishments were assisting in separating conjoined twins while in Texas and working with sheep on some of the first bypass machines in Washington, DC. An avid gardener, she loved roses and butterflies. Deborah was a talented seamstress, having made intricate clothing, formal wear, drapes and elaborate costumes. Deborah loved travel and surprises. She was known to bring trinkets when visiting nieces and nephews. Deborah’s family will have a private gathering to celebrate her life in Mississippi. She will be buried at Evergreen Cemetery in Carrollton.
Her family is grateful for the care given to her by MD Anderson, Touro/LCMC and St. Tammany Hospice. Bagnell and Sons Funeral Home have made arrangements. Memorials can be made to Children’s Hospital, 200 Henry Clay Ave., New Orleans LA 70118.
