Chester "Chet" J. Kastava

August 21, 1943 — January 19, 2024

Mandeville, Louisiana

Chester “Chet” Kastava, born in Brooklyn, NY on August 21, 1943, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.   He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Donna Kastava, two daughters, Christine Jameson and her husband Cody and Debbie-Mercy Jean, and three stepsons, Adam Hymel and his wife Michelle, Casey Hymel and Blake Hymel. Chet is the oldest brother to Theresa Giannola and her husband Ralph, Valerie Collins and her husband Pete, and Paul Kastava. He is grandfather to Cora and Megan and Uncle to Mark, Keith, Paul, Lauren, Tracy and Donna.  He is a beloved brother-in-law to Denise and Rick Guttenberger and Debbie and Bill Bonebrake, and son-in-law to Mac and Christie McRight. Chet is predeceased by his father and mother, Chester and Stella Kastava and his mother-in-law Dell McRight.


Chet earned a Bachelor of Science degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York.  He was a federal agent with US Customs (retired) and served in the Air Force.  In his later years he worked as a private contractor for Gulf Marine in NOLA.


Chet was beloved by all who had the privilege to know him.  He was especially known for his humor and love of life and people.  With Chet every day was a celebration.  He is best remembered for his infectious enthusiasm.  He never missed a chance to help and encourage everyone who knew him.  

Chet was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend; a larger than life personality that never met a stranger.  He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends.


A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 17 at 1:30 at Bagnell’s Funeral Home, Covington, LA.
