Charles Herbert Stire, born on September 10, 1925, a native of Louisiana and a resident of Mandeville, LA for many years, died on December 12, 2016.  He was a devoted husband and a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather.  He lived his childhood years in Hammond, Louisiana, and enlisted in the Navy in 1943 at the age of 17, serving in the South West Pacific theatre of World War II.

A graduate of the School of Banking of the South at LSU, “Herb” began a 40 year career in banking in 1948.  He worked in Hammond and Greensburg until1958.  He was then called to Morgan City to spend 30 years as a successful banker, including serving as President of the First National Bank and of the America Bank in Morgan City.    He was active in the Louisiana Bankers Association, and the American Bankers Association. Herb was also a founder and charter member of the Petroleum Club in Morgan City.  After retiring he moved to Mandeville, Louisiana with his wife Anna in 1998.  He was a parishioner of Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Mandeville.

Herb was respected in the community and ready to give a helping hand. All who knew him loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Anna Duczer Stire, and two children, Barbara Sears (Stephen), and Philip Stire (Carol).  Proud grandfather of Natalie Bedore (Joe), Walter Sears (Emily), and Eric Sears (Caitlin) , Douglas Stire,  Andrew Stire and Greig Stire, as well as two great grandchildren , Camille and Michael Bedore.  Also survived by brother in law Stephen Duczer, and sisters in law Mary Ann Privat and Dauphine Stire.

Charles Herbert Stire was preceded in death by his son, Alfred Douglas Stire, his parents James, and Estelle Stire, brother Alvin Stire, and sisters Margie Cazanove (Frank), and Betty Patenotte (Leon Thomas).

Services will be held at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Mandeville LA. on Wednesday December 21, 2106. Visitation will begen at 10:00am with a mass at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Green Lawn Cemeter, Hammond, LA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
