Catalina “Katie” Taylor Landry, 82, of Abita Springs, LA passed away surrounded by loved ones on August 30, 2020. Katie was born on April 30, 1938 to Robert & Lidia Taylor in La Lima, Honduras. In 1954, Katie arrived in the United States to attend school at French Camp Academy in French Camp, MS. After graduation, she moved to New Orleans, LA and landed her first job in the Pathology Lab at Mercy Hospital. While living on Bienville Street, Katie met William Ison Price and they wed in 1960. Katie and Ike later welcomed their precious son, William Arlie Price; she was widowed at an early age. In 1968, Katie wed Dwaynne Landry, and they went on to have two daughters, Kimberly and Allison. Katie and Dwaynne moved to River Ridge, LA to raise their family. Katie began to work as the bilingual secretary at Roosevelt Middle School in Kenner, LA where she later retired after 25 years. Over the years, Katie had shared with her friends and family that she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 14 while attending French Camp Academy. As she has written in her life journal, “French Camp showed me so much love and taught me how to prepare my soul for eternity.” Following retirement, Katie and Dwaynne decided to move to St. Tammany Parish and enjoyed wonderful years in Covington. Together they were led to a most dear congregation at Covington Presbyterian Church, where they were blessed with many years of beautiful and cherished friendships. While in retirement, Katie and Dwaynne enriched their life volunteering with the St Tammany Parish Hospital’s Guild. After her loving husband’s passing, she then relocated to Abita Springs. Katie dedicated her life to serving the Lord, raising her family, time spent with her siblings, numerous nieces and nephews, friends and a most cherished part of her life was welcoming her four dear grandchildren into the world. She volunteered with the STAIR (Start the Adventure in Reading) Program at Covington Elementary and enjoyed many years of fun with the Abita Senior Citizens Club. She made it her mission to improve the lives of others. Katie was passionate about gardening and when she wasn’t filling her home with warmth, kindness & love, she could be found taking care of her grandchildren. Katie was predeceased by her parents, her husbands, her brothers, Luis Taylor, Herman Taylor, Felix Bates and her sister Perla Arriaga. She is survived by her three children Arlie (Linda) Price, Kimberly (Christian) Gassner, and Allison (Chris) Hnatyshyn, her sisters Alma Franz, Betty Gough, Maggie Bowden and her grandchildren, Owen & Riley, Max & Molly. There is much gratitude to be given to St Tammany Parish Hospice and our dear friends and family. Heaven has gained a very special soul in Katie. We will miss her greatly. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Covington Presbyterian Church, 222 S. Jefferson Ave. Covington, Louisiana 70435 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until service time. A private inurnment will follow.
