Betty Jo Rodgers Choate, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on October 26, 2024 in Covington, LA. She was born in Sikeston, MO on September 20, 1932, to Nettie O’Conner Rodgers and James F. Rodgers.
Betty was a loving wife to her late husband, George W. Choate, and cherished her role as a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her sons, James L. Choate (Jean) of Crown Point, IN; Sabe D. Choate (Faye) of Kansas City, MO; William D. Choate (Karen) of Madison, AL; Harley E. Choate IV (Kathy) of Kiln, MS; and daughter Cindy Choate Gibson (Kurt) of Porter, OK. Her other children, the late Heather Choate Hamilton, Spud (Linda) Hockersmith, Richard (Judy) Hockersmith, Susan Hockersmith Paskel also hold a special place in her heart.
Betty's legacy includes her grandchildren: Susan Lyn Choate DeVries, Amanda Choate Matney, Harley E. Choate V, Danielle Rae Choate, Lauren Ashley Choate, Elizabeth Dani Choate, Natalie Jo Choate, Jimmy Gibson, Melissa Gibson, Tonya Tomlin, Corey Gordon, Tammie Capper Bumpus, the late Lauren Elizabeth Capper, and her 12 great-grandchildren, who will forever remember her warmth and love.
A dedicated nurse, Betty spent many fulfilling years at Sikeston Hospital before retiring as a nursing home inspector for the State of Missouri. Her compassion and commitment to caring for others left a lasting impact on many lives.
Betty was known for her vibrant spirit, her unwavering love for her family, and her deep passion for helping others. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday October 5, 2024 at Shelby's Funeral Home in East Prairie Missouri. Visitation will be 11am-1pm and service will begin at 1pm. A Graveside Service will follow at the Anniston Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
