Ann Ball Guin, 90, born in Bogalusa, LA died from complications of RSV Monday, January 8, 2024. Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years Edward L Guin, parents Walter Riley and Odra Smith Ball of Greene County, MS, siblings Johnny Charles Ball and Ronnie Glynn Ball. She is survived by her daughter Debra Guin Schmitt (Brian) of Myrtle Beach, SC, son Charles (Chuck) Guin (Vicki) of Mandeville, LA, grandsons Charles (Drew) Guin (Claire) of New Orleans, LA, Eric Guin of Houston, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ann grew up the oldest of three children in Greene County MS and attended Sand Hill High School, where she played basketball. Before graduating she met her future husband on a blind date. They married on Christmas eve of 1950 and he left for service in the Korean War. Ann stayed, finished high school and started her life with Ed in Columbus, MS upon his return from Korea. In 1957, Ed, Ann and Debbie moved to New Orleans.
As Ed's career led to extensive travel. Ann was the steady hand on the family at home. She was the consummate homemaker. She was known by most as a great cook and excelled at baking, but with Ed traveling she did it all. From raising the kids, volunteering at school, being active in the church to forging lifelong friendships with neighbors, she was the glue that held us together. She was a member of St Timothy on the Northshore church in Mandeville and attended regularly. Ann shared many things with those around her. If you knew Ann over the years, you probably were touched by her generosity. Many were the recipients of a cake delivery or a plate of food.
