Alvin J. Gillan, Jr., known by his loved ones as “A.J.”, 72, passed away in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family. Alvin (A.J.) is preceded in death by his father and mother. He was the son of the late Alvin J. Gillan, Sr. and the late Pauline M. Gillan.
For the past 50 years, he was the beloved husband of Carol L. Gillan. He is survived by his two children, Heather Fenasci (Peter), Patrick Gillan, and his two grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Vela. He was preceded in death by his infant granddaughter Angelle.
Alvin's (A.J.) oldest sister Eileen Robbins (husband Sanford "Jay" Robbins) preceded him in death. He is survived by his three sisters: Maurleen Lindheim (Kenneth), Kathleen Coupel (the late Frank Coupel), and Colleen Greer (late Edward Greer) and also, include many in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed.
After retiring as an industrial millwright, he and his wife enjoyed travels across the United States and made many wonderful memories together that will never be forgotten. Many of his days after retirement were spent volunteering at the Paul Spitzfaden Community Center in Mandeville, Louisiana helping COAST serve hot lunch meals to the lovely seniors who came throughout the week. Also, Alvin (A.J.) was the vice president of the New Image Club at the center and the Bingo caller every Friday. His fun-loving personality was always embraced by everyone.
In fulfillment of his wishes, a private family memorial service will be given in celebration of his life. In memory of Alvin (A.J.) his family kindly request that you plant seeds of love in your garden.
