On January 18, 2021, Alma Jane Lind Herod passed away at age 67 in Slidell, Louisiana, following a long battle with dementia.
Alma is survived by her husband, Jimmy; son Danny (Kim) of Slidell, LA; daughter Melissa O’Neal (Stephen) of Tyler, Texas; grandsons Malachi, David, Luke, and Caleb Herod; and granddaughter Macy O’Neal; sisters Edna Milutin, Lois Parker, Grace Nolen, Linda Kurtas (Lee); brothers George Lind (Rita) and Alan Lind; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Georgia Lind, Sr., brother Walter Lind, Jr., and sisters Jenny Hurley and Jean Deem.
The ninth of ten children, Alma was born on July 18, 1953, to Walter and Georgia Lind, Sr. in Port Bolivar, Texas. She graduated from Ball High School in Galveston, Texas, in 1971. A week before she turned 18, she married Jimmy, her husband of 49 years, in 1971. They moved to St. Bernard in 1972, where they lived until Hurricane Katrina.
Alma loved to laugh and be silly. She enjoyed playing games, especially Canasta, and putting puzzles together. In her younger days, she loved playing softball. While her children were in school, she was active in the PTA, cub scouts, band boosters, and all of their other activities. With her sewing skills, she made flags for the colorguard and tuba covers for the band. Even more than she loved being a mom, she loved being a Mimi. Her grandchildren could do no wrong in her eyes.
A memorial service is planned for a later date
