James Burke Jr.

James Gibbons Burke, Jr. (Jim), a local admiralty attorney, passed away peacefully at age 85 in Madisonville, Louisiana on May 2, 2018.  Jim was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to James Gibbons Burke and Mary Rose Shea Burke.  He was loved and will be deeply missed by his wife, Karla Heidloff  Burke, his children: Elizabeth “Liz” Landry (Michael), James “Jimmy” Burke, III (Dana), Todd Knaak (Elizabeth), Clayton Burke (Carolyn), Curran Burke (Simone), Amy Solis (Kenny), his fourteen grandchildren; his siblings: Deirdre Provosty (Michel), Sheela Plater (David), and Sean Burke (Ann) and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Peter Burke, his sister-in-law Ginger Burke and his niece Marguerite Cappel,   He was an avid sailor and gardener, contributing greatly to the iris, azalea and cypress population in Beau Chene.  He was most proud of his service in the United States Navy and his grandchildren.  He loved entertaining family and friends and spending time in his cabin in North Carolina.  He will be remembered for his smile, his love of family and friends, his sense of humor and his determination to ensure that anyone who visited had something to eat and drink. Glasses will be raised in celebration of Jim's life at a private gathering later this month.
