GARVIN GRANT COX
At the age of 82, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend passed away in his sleep on Saturday, September 11, 2021. He was a graduate of the John McDonogh High School and received his BA in Education and his Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Louisiana State University. He also attained +30 hours of credit in Mexico City. After his retirement he opened up Garvin Cox Photography in St. Bernard Parish.
He was a member of the Downtown Irish Club for many years and served as one of their officers. He was also chosen as the club’s Man of the Year in 2009.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, the arts, Mardi Gras, LSU athletics, Saints football, nature, traveling, and especially St. Patrick’s Day. He was able to travel with his wife, Velvye Cox to Italy, London, France, Alaska, Ireland, Mexico, Jamaica, Bazil, Costa Rica, and the Bahamas.
He is preceded in death by his parents Curtis Cox, Sr. , Alma P. Cox, his brother Curtis Cox Jr., sister-in-law, Jane B. Ibanez, and son, Sean A. Cox.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Velvye B. Cox, daughter, Shannon Cox, son, Michael G. Cox, daughter-in-law, Michelle W. Cox, grandchildren, Katie C. Dantagnan (Brent Dantagnan), Stefan Cox (Lauren Murray), Jared T. Nunez (Caitlin Mire), Sarah Nunez, Dillon Cox (Beth Taylor), also numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Monday, September 20, 2021 in the Chapel of Bagnell & Son Funeral 75212 Hwy 437 Covington, Louisiana 70435 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation from 12:00 p.m. until service time.
